For
more than 18 years JB has toured throughout the southeast with
this band. There were smaller tours that took the band to New
York, Dallas, and Chicago, but the biggest fan base has developed
in the southeast.
“We were on the road all the time. There
was one tour that we did that was all on Islands. 2 weeks in
Key West, 2 weeks in Captiva Island, Fl, 2 weeks in Hilton
Head, SC, back to Key West for another 2 weeks. And then we
finished it off with a week in Amelia Island, FL and a weekend
at the Sand dollar on James Island, SC. It was great! We were
young and could go all night and get up do it again night after
night. I think we played over 250 days that year."
With
the funky sounds of Little Feat, the driving country of Delbert McClinton and
John Hiatt, the harmonies of CS&N,
Eagles and Jackson Browne, rounded out with JB's originals
that have been compared to Lyle Lovett, and Dave Wilcox. This band
has such a wide variety of music and styles that every ear
will be entertained. “Back in the day when we first started
playing in Key West at Margaritaville, Buffett wanted us to
be the “Shrimpers”. You
know wear the slickers, boots and everything. "But I
think the idea came from too much Tequila and Coronas”.
We still laugh about the idea to this day. We’ve shared
the stage on more than one occasion. Jimmy has been great friend
to me and my band. Though we’re not the Reefers, Jimmy
knows if he wants to come up and jam at Margaritaville, or
play a show like the Friday afternoon Street Fest he has no
worries that we’ll have a large time and play some great
music."
JB has always surrounded himself with some great
musicians throughout the years. The configuration has pretty
much stayed the same.
This show wouldn’t be the same
with out long time sideman, guitar slinger; Chris Clifton.
Chris, or “Clifford” (JB's
nickname for the voirtuoso) hails from the great state/country
of Texas but now resides in NC for the last 20 or so years.
CC has been with JB since the inception.
“Chris is the
one who took me to Key West the First time. It wasn’t
even legal for me to drink our first trip. CC still remains
one of my favorite guitar players and friend to this day. I
just don’t gat tired of hearing him play.
Taste and so much soul comes form his heart and fingers. We’ve
had some real magical nights."
The pulse of the JB band
has been provided from the beginning from Mark Weaver. The
first and only drummer, Mark provides the harmonies as well
a laying down the beat.
“Weaver has been my musician brother
through it all. We have don’t
even have to look at each other to know what the other is going to do next
during the song. He reads my mind, and knows where I’m going, and if
I forget a part or rearrange the song (which I often do) he’s there to
get me back on track."
Teaming up with Weaver and laying down the bottom
end is Mark Perrue. Another vituoso on his instrument. Mark combines Jazz,
with some of the funkiest bass lines to give The JB Band a
super big sound.
Greg Simmons is the newest member taking the
responsibilities of percussion and singing some great harmonies.
When Greg, Mark and JB sing together the air buzzes with harmony.
“Greg
is the first drummer that I played music with. We learned how
to sing harmony from my mother. And to this day we can sing
two part harmony like the Everly Brothers. He took some time
away from music to get a “real job”!
(God Forbid!) But I so glad to have him back where his heart
is." |
